Motivation To Organize
#2 In The Baby Steps Series
The smallest accomplishments can have a huge impact on us mentally, physically and emotionally. The same way that having a dirty and cluttered home affects us mentally, physically and emotionally. Something as simple as cleaning and shinning your kitchen sink can make you feel better. No, the whole kitchen is not clean, but you completed an important part of moving towards that goal. But the funny thing is, now you have a little more motivation to clean and/or organize something else.
Motivation is key!
Many of you know how to clean and organize and many of you do not. However, we all have one thing in common, the lack of motivation!
The following is a list of ways to get motivated and inspired to start the new year off right.
- Turn on some music that gets you moving. Zumba music is my motivation. It is fantastic music to get you moving. My daughter does too and incorporates Zumba steps and moves while she works. It is a great workout too!
- Find a focal point in your home that everyone in your home sees daily such as the entry hall, mud room, breakfast bar, etc. and get it decluttered and clean. Because it is a focal point in your home, it will make an immediate difference to the overall space and your family will notice it! Having our efforts noticed motivates us.
- Don’t try to do it all in one day. Small accomplishments go a long way and they motivate us to pick another project.
- Time yourself. Set your timer for 20 minutes and no longer for one small project such as straightening your dresser drawers. You will be amazed at what you can do in 20 minutes when you are focused on that one project and nothing else. The timer gives you permission to stop when it dings. The ding also rewards you by showing you how much you actually got done during that time.
- Visualize a room in sections. If you can’t find the motivation to clean the entire kitchen, focus only on the counter tops or the cabinet under the sink. When you divide the big task into separate small tasks, it is not overwhelming and there again you are rewarded when it’s complete.
- Get the kids involved. Make it a game by setting the timer where everyone can here it and see who finishes their task first. Or, sing a silly song while you work. Just get them involved. This also helps them to remember to put things back later.
- Tour a model home for motivation and inspiration.
- Pictures of beautiful rooms in magazine articles and be motivational
- Invite someone for dinner! What can be more motivating than that???
One last thing, if you are married and your husband does not notice the house methodically taking shape, don’t stop! Don’t get angry or get your feelings hurt because he hasn’t said anything. Most men do not notice these things. He may notice the focal points that you accomplished but he may never look under the kitchen sink! Remember this is for you!
Let’s find the motivation together and share with each other what inspires us to clean and organize. All Comments welcomed!!
