How long has it been? Really? How long have you had these pants hanging in your closet knowing they haven’t fit in at least 2 years? Do you enjoy torturing yourself looking at the things you love but can’t wear anymore?
I myself was doing the same thing. “I’m going to lose weight so I will let them stay.” Bad idea!!!
If you really think about it, how much space would you free up in your closet if you removed everything that does not fit you? Including things that are too big. And let’s get real girls, just because we can get it on does not mean it fits 😥
Let’s start the New Year off right by being honest with ourselves. Yes I need to loose 30 pounds. Yes I am working on that now, but it is really depressing to flip through cute stuff to find something that actually fits. So I say we take a different approach to what’s in our closet!
I am not saying get rid of your favorite outfit just yet. I am just saying remove it from your closet. Just this past week I did this very thing… I stood in the middle of my closet and tried on everything. If it was too small, too tight, or uncomfortable I removed it from my closet.
At first everything went into this huge pile together. It really amazed me how much I was hanging on to that didn’t fit. My closet is not big at all and you should have seen this pile! I had had it all organized together with my other clothes as though they were doing me a service. Not any more!
Before I tackled the pile I enjoyed reorganizing my light and airy closet. Yep, not much left in there. I could almost hear my closet sigh…. I felt so much better, because I knew that everything that was in there actually fit me and I could just grab something and go. No more digging and making myself depressed.
So this is what I did with the pile: I tossed things I no longer wanted into a donate pile. Some of these things I never wanted or wore but they were gifts. It was liberating to put them in the donate pile. For the things I love that didn’t fit, I separated by size. One pile was for size 10, (sniff niff). The next pile was for size 12, (I think I am going to be sick). I stored them in air tight containers by size using my label maker and put them away in the attic. When I loose some of this weight, I will get the 12’s down and donate what becomes too big. I refuse to store fat clothes because I do not plan to be this size again.
Don’t forget those shoes and handbags that go with just one or two outfits! If the outfits are packed away, why not give them a break too?
