Do you like the idea of shopping at the big box stores but don’t have the room to store the large packages or boxes? This one tip just may change the way you look at those large packages.
Set yourself free from Manufacturer packaging. Who says that you have to keep food in the original package? Divide and conquer!
One of our favorite things to buy at Sam’s are seasoned chicken strips. They come in a huge box that barely fits in the freezer. I take the plastic bag of chicken out of the box. I then cut the cooking instructions off of the box. I put the instructions in a ziplock bag and place that down inside the large plastic bag of chicken. The bag is much easier to manipulate in the freezer.
You could also break the large bag down into smaller, one meal size freezer bags and just photo copy the directions for each one. Make sure you put the cooking instructions in a baggie to keep your food free of contamination.
I do the same thing with dry goods such as instant potatoes buds. Since these don’t come with a plastic insert, I keep them in a labeled container or baggie that is much smaller than the original one and put the cooking instructions inside just like above.
Another tip is to find a friend to go in with you on the price and you can split the large packages between one another. This will save you money and space.
These are my absolute favorite storage containers! Rubbermaid FG7M7500CHILI 8-Piece Dry Food Container Set, 4 Containers and 4 Lids I use them for everything! Cereal, chips, nuts, cookies, flour, sugar, corn meal, rice, etc. Everything stays fresh and they stack neatly. They take up much less space than the original packages because you guys know, the package is always bigger than what is inside.
Hope this helps.
