ICE……In Case Of Emergency
Preparing your cell phone for emergencies could potentially save your life one day. If you are unconscious and unable to communicate, all first responders will go straight for your cell phone to see if you have ICE numbers programmed into your list of contacts.
The principal reason can be to seek permission to treat you when injured. A delay in this can result in a much worsened condition. ICE aims to speed this up to ensure rapid responses. Furthermore, emergency personnel can ask questions about allergies, general health, previous accident experiences etc., all information that might help save your limb or life.
Who would you want them to call, your husband, mother, kids, siblings? By icing the names and phone numbers of those you want contacted in such an event, speeds up the process for the very people that are trying to care for you.
Research has shown that emergency workers often struggle to reach family members when a patient has not “ICED” their phone. You may have 1,000 contacts in your phone, how are they going to know who to call?
You want to have several ICE contacts in case one of the others can’t be reached.
My ICE contacts are my husband, parents, sibling & kids. By looking at a normal contact list, emergency personnel will not know that Mickey is in fact my husband and so on.
Example: If you place a period before the Ice contact’s name, your phone will automatically list your ice numbers first. The three periods in front of my husband’s name places him at the top of the ICE list. The rest of my Ice contacts just have one or two periods which prioritizes them conveniently organized at the top as well, above hundreds of contacts.
When I open up my contacts, this is the first thing I see:
Think about all of the emergency personnel that wake up every morning and make the decision to put their life on the line for you and me.
You can all help them by simply stopping for a minuter to ice your cell phone!
I don’t know about you, but if my child was in an accident I would want to be notified immediately! I also know they would want me there!
Share and be safe!
Disclaimer: If anyone puts their phone in a block of ice and blames me for ruining their phone, I will know you did not read this life saving article. Just sayin! 🙄
