Your Linen closet doesn’t have to be scary.
Are you afraid to open the door to your linen closet ? Afraid that a guest will open the linen closet door? Is everything in your linen closet jumbled up and wadded with no rhyme or reason? Is it hard to find what you are looking for?
It’s really not as hard as you might think to have an organized linen closet. Some of you may not even have a dedicated linen closet, here you will also find free standing linen closet as well. Empty out everything from the linen closet. If you have been following me you know what I am going to say. Wash down the inside of the empty linen closet, shelves & floor. Need fresh paint or shelf liner in your linen closet? For linen closet organization or any organizing project, See ORGANIZING BASICS first.
As you are emptying the linen closet, sort your linens as you go according to size and sets.
Let’s stop right here! Do you still have twin sheets in your linen closet, but no longer have twin beds? Upgraded to a king size, but still have your queen sheets in your linen closet. It is time to donate or sell what you do not use. Are some of these items seasonal such as flannel sheets or Christmas? This is a good time to ask yourself if you need some new linens. Nothing perks up a linen closet like a new set of sheets. And Remember what I said about your kitchen towels? Well your linen closet is not going to look crisp if your bath & hand towels are thread bare and raveling. Most master bedrooms have walk-in closets or extra linen closet in the on-suite bathroom. I would recommend that you separate your master linens away from the rest of the family’s linen closet. So now, the linen closet itself is for the kid’s sheet sets only.
Here is a linen closet tip: Ever heard, “Where is the matching pillow case?” Try this. Take a folded set of sheets with all of the matching pieces and put them inside one of the matching pillow cases. So when you need a set, you have everything you need in one nice bundle! Or, as in this picture a pillow case neatly wraps around the set. This makes your linen closet very neat.
The above tip will make your linen closet extremely organized and efficient. No more missing pieces. Just make sure when you do laundry, you remember to fold them likewise before putting away in your new organized linen closet.
I like to keep closet fresheners in the linen closet as well to keep everything smelling fresh!
